Abstract

The study reveals that the social behaviors of Lembah Sungai Gajah Wong society can be classified into three categories. First, economic behaviors, that is efforts to earn money. This behavior has been formed by their economic demands, so that they would do anything to get money. Second, social and cultural behaviors. That is the habit of living freely without complying with the existing regulations and social norms in their efforts to meet their needs and wants in life. Third, religious behaviors. That is the desire to get good values in their lives by performing religious symbols. The values underlying their social behaviors are religious values, humanity values and material values. The religious values underlie their desire to get ethically good living. The humanity values guide their behavior as people living in poverty. The material is something highly valuable for the community, because their poverty has made them hedonistic. The factors influencing the social behaviors of Lembah Sungai Gajah Wong society are as follow: first, the organizers of neighborhood association do not motivate the society to create conducive atmosphere and environment, free from gambling, prostitution, drunk, conflicts and so on. Second, the life background of the people is poverty, living freely, without compliance with the social norms and they even have social defects. Third, the education level of the people in Lembah Sungai Gajah Wong is low. Fourth, the social institution programs tend to spoil them, fifth, socialization of values, specially religious values and ethics, do not directly touch on the daily life problems of Lembah Sungai Gajah Wong society.
