Abstract
The existence of teachers cannot be separated from the system of national education. They have participated actively in the process of national human resources development through education. They are heroes. They are often blamed when the students are involved in interschool fight/clash, drug abuse, sexual intercourse before married, or get bad achievements. They are regarded to be incompetent or disqualified. How to make them competent and qualified? What has been done by the government or private institutions to help overcome the problems? What can be expected by the enactment of National Standard on Education (PP Nomor 19 Tahun 2005 tentang Standar Nasional Pendidikan)? This article tries to describe an effort should be made to raise the teachers‟ standard and legal certification.
