Abstract
Islamic studies in Indonesia are faced with the challenge not just for planting doctrine but also the development of science and its contribution to the resolution of social problems. Several attempts have been made to strengthen the study of Islam in the realm of the normative and historically, such as by developing materials and approaches in the study of Islam. As part of the study of Islam at the level of the students also need to be developed, because the student is the subject and object of the implementation of higher education. This paper intends to understand and explain the themes of the study and the approach taken in the study (thesis) students STAIN Kediri, Ushuluddin Comparative Religion and Tafsir Hadith Program. The results of this study indicate that students study not just the study of normative, but many are historicalempirical. The study that they are doing is trying to articulate between the normative teachings of the socio-historical reality and the religious community. The tendency study historical-empirical getting this seems closely linked to efforts to develop themes that are field studies and strengthening the material and crossdisciplinary methodology, which has been done.
